Restone Maambo was born in Zambia in 1980. Maambo currently lives and works as a full time artist in Cape Town.
Maambo’s work is about considering life experience and the ways of then artistically interpreting life that surrounds him. His paintings have reminiscent aspects, looking back at childhood in his subject matter and uses of unusual materials in his works. Maambo was first interested in illustrations found in newspapers and comics at the age of 5. His passion for creativity and art lead him to move to Cape Town to study further and he was awarded numerous prizes as he studied at Ruth Prowse. He graduated in 2008 and has since pursued his career, focusing on painting concerned with the human form and its presence in different environments. Restone Maambo’s first solo show Levitation was held at Eclectica Contemporary from the 1st of September 2016. The works are painting and mixed media on canvas and work through the theme of Levitation.
A selection of Maambo’s latest paintings will be on exhibition at ECLECTICA Design & Art
in November 2016 as part of the show South Facing.
