Cape Town based artist, Paul Painting, studied graphic design at the Technikon of Witwatersrand.
own experiences of alienation, isolation, uncertainty and dislocation in the world. He uses memory and the application of paint as tools to express his understanding of these concepts. Painting bases a lot of his subject matter off of personal photographs that he has collected throughout years, such as of his mother when she was younger. His handling of paint is delicate in it’s application with subtle colours to construct moody narratives of ghost-like figures, evoking for the viewer feelings of mystery and isolation from the figure depicted.
